First Call 911!
The very first thing to do in any emergency is call 911 and request help from professionally trained first responders.
Time is Critical!
The truth is…time is critical. Without blood flow to the brain, cells in the brain can begin to die in as little as 4 minutes. Doing chest compressions quickly and until help arrives can be the difference between a positive outcome and certain death.
Push Hard & Push Fast!
Place the heel of your hand in the center of the chest. Place your other hand on top of the first hand…and GO! PUSH HARD & PUSH FAST! DO IT!! Only stop if the victim wakes up…otherwise…
DO NOT STOP PUSHING HARD & FAST
The exact number of times you push the chest per minute isn’t as important as the fact of just push FAST. If you want an example of how fast…think of the beat to Stayin Alive by The Bee Gees.
Can I use an AED if I am not certified?
The short answer again is…YES!!
AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) is an Easy To Use, lifesaving, device. Simply turn the device on and follow the voice directions. It REALLY is that easy!
Am I Going To Get Sued?
Layperson Rescuers are protected by Good Samaritan Laws in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These laws protect individuals from liability for providing good, common sense, care to victims of sudden illness or injury until help can arrive.
No Substitution for Good Training
Although we are lucky to have Good Samaritan Laws and Hands Only CPR, there is no substitute for good life saving training. Are you prepared?
